Tips How To Take Your Own Pregnancy Newborn and Family Photos - Shoot Your Own Damn Baby!

Having a baby is a wonderful and happy time for every woman and it's definitely worth capturing it for long memory of you and your off-springs. But should you really pay for the pregnancy and newborn photos or perhaps your friend/cousin or hubby could do it with a few tricks and a camera from Best Buy?? Here are a few of things you'll need:

Your artistic expectation Your patience Your determination to read till the end of this article

This is obvious but you should decide on what kind of pictures you would like to have as some are pretty easy to pull off and some take quite a bit of skill, special lighting and equipment. I would suggest to Google things like "artistic pregnancy photos" or "best newborn photographers" and check out the photos you find to be most appealing. Some things you could easily copy with your own point and shoot camera! Here are the tips on how to take good pregnancy photos on a budget:

JUST SHOOT IT. If shooting at home try to use a camera on a Portrait mode (or Manual if you are more technically inclined and your camera allows it) and without on-camera flash. Just play with available table lamps or window lights. You may drape a black or any other solid fabric in the back to focus more on you then your interior. Ask your friend or husband to take close up shots of you, your belly. Play with props, such as memorabilia that will belong to your kid, cute items, flowers - be creative!
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. Go out - beach, park or an interesting dramatic location does half the job of creating an image,
LIGHT. Take pictures at sunset time - that's when the lights are best of all.
LOOSE THE CLOTHES. If weather and your self confidence permit, try to loose the clothes - use fabric wraps and simple button up shirts or light dresses to accentuate your belly (and perhaps hide some unwanted spots:)).
PHOTOSHOP IT. When you are all done and happy with the results, I would recommend to do some editing on a few of your favorite pictures. But BE CAREFUL not to overdo it - a little bit of Photoshop is great to remove unwanted things, like: blemishes, stretch marks, dark circles under your eyes, and convert photos into nice black and whites. However, a lot of "airbrushing" and over-processing can ruin any image by making it look look "soapy" and fake. Most malls have inexpensive photo-editing services that would do basic editing for around a photo. I would recommend to shop around and find people who do very natural looking photo editing with examples of the look that you'd want to go for. This step is critical, as nowadays good Photoshop work separates snap-shots from professional looking photos.
PRINT IT FOR LONG YEARS TO COME. Try to print your photos on the best possible papers and inks. Although this can get expensive it will pay off in a long run by staying vibrant for many decades (some claim that certain types of canvas images can keep their colors for centuries) - that's handy if you want to keep your photos for the rest of your life and then give them to your kids and grand-kids. I would recommend searching for "archival printing" labs. It used to be available mostly to professional photographers and artists but is getting more popular among individuals wishing to preserve their photos. With this said, archival framing is also recommended to finish up your work of art.

SO WHAT ABOUT BABY PHOTOS?!

Not to worry, you can do it, too. Of course professional photographers who specialize in newborn and baby photos are always the first choice in this case, because they have all the props, best photography gear and lenses that create that soft looking background which makes all the difference in the world and also because they simply know what they are doing. But it's not always the case with inexperienced photographers and the pros are always more expensive. Thus, in some cases you can take just as good of pictures with your own camera at home then taking it to another "cheesy" photographer.

Things you'll need:

A BABY;) AND PLENTY OF PATIENCE. Babies are best to be photographed on the first week of their life because they sleep a lot and are easy to pose without waking them up. The 6th day of life is considered to be perfect but the first 2-3 weeks will work as well. After that it's gonna get harder and harder to keep them asleep - but on the other hand it's YOUR baby, you'll have all the time to take pictures of it.
MAKE IT SIMPLE. Take that diaper OFF!!! Some people like to put a lot of props and distracting elements into baby photos. I say keep it about the baby. Unless you are the next Anne Geddes I doubt you can pull off a good photo of your baby hanging off a tree branch looking serene (that's difficult and dangerous too!!!). Use fabrics and earthy tones. Experiment with locations, put the baby into baskets and cute things. Take that ugly diaper off!!! Use the props and poses to shoot implied nudes of your little one - they always look more artsy.
MAKE IT SAFE!!! You are not Anne Geddes... It's THE most important part of the process. You should make sure that whatever you do your most precious possession doesn't get harmed in the process. Crank up the heat, make sure the baby is comfy and laying on surfaces that won't scratch or get into eyes, nose etc. Don't put babies on edges or try to duplicate those cool shots where they are handing off things - that's Photoshop. No photographer in the right mind would put their clients' baby in jeopardy so most of the images are composites (where the baby is laying in the stork and then Photoshopped into another stork hanging off a branch or whatnot otherwise the Photographer is either taking every precaution or taking a risk). If you do try to shoot stork images I suggest to practice common sense and have people helping you.
SHOOT UP CLOSE. Come and take images from different angles other then side images of your laying on a side baby - although it may look adorable to you, in all reality that's boring. Experiment, try to be creative. Shoot those little toes and fingers, hair line and butt. Also you may put a baby on your husband's shoulder and take a photo from the back, or put the baby's head into his hands and capture how small the baby is in comparison with large adult hands. I'm sure you get the point.
PHOTOSHOP. PRINT. HANG. POST. I have the same exact suggestions as the aforementioned editing and printing methods. I could also advise you to invest into a slide-show making software - a nice slide-show with music will make your photos look great. Go to download.com and search for some, you may even find them for free. You could then proudly show if off on YouTube or any other social media.

OK, even if you decide to skip all the pain of doing things yourself and looking for editing services or worse yet trying to conquer Photoshop yourself (!) I still hope you will find these tips useful for your everyday photography. For some samples of what you could try doing please see my photography work at www.littlebabee.com

Best wishes,

Diana Konrad

Deer Hunting Trail Cameras - Types of Trail Cameras

There are essentially 2 different types of trail cameras. There is the incandescent flash camera or the infrared flash camera. Both of which do an outstanding job of capturing pictures at night when set out on a food plot, feeder, or deer trail, but what type to use has become the big question to many people looking to buy deer hunting trail cameras.

Let's look at the 2 types individually and how they work.

Flash Trail Cameras

The flash deer trail camera have an incandescent bulb just like your normal 35mm or digital cameras do. When the trigger to take a picture is pressed the bulb lights up and the camera records what ever is in front of the lens. Trail cameras with flash bulbs work in the same way although the button is not pressed as the normal camera. The motion sensor triggers the camera to snap a photo instead and just as the camera records, the bulb flashes lighting up the area in front of the lens.

One of the great things about the flash trail camera is that you get color photos day or night, unlike the infrared trail camera, more on this in a minute, but the downfall is shorter battery life on some cameras and the chance to spook the animal you are trying to photograph. You may only have the chance once to photo that creature as it is spooked off by the sudden "blue square" it now sees from the flash popping off in its eyes.

If you are using your flash camera for security purposes or in a public access area, the flash is going to draw attention to the photo equipment and it may just grow feet and walk off. This can get expensive and become very frustrating.

Infrared Trail Cameras

The infrared deer trail camera or IR as some call it, is one of the newest types of cameras on the market today. It is growing at a fast rate of use because of its covert photography capabilities.

The infrared camera works off of heat sensors. "The way they work is by detecting the amount of heat an object emits and then color-coding the object according to the amount of infrared radiation it emitted".

I am not going to get in depth of how this all works, it gets pretty complicated to say the least. Just suffice it to say that if there is heat and the sensor detects it, it triggers the trail camera to snap a photo just as the flash camera does, but with out the flash effect. Instead it lights up the LED panel which emits enough light for the photo equipment to record the image.

The reason these cameras are so popular is that they do not emit that burst of light as the incandescent camera would, which research has shown to not spook wildlife or draw attention to the trail camera as easily. In effect you would get more pictures of deer, for instance, at your feeder or food plot or record an image of the person breaking into your car without them knowing it. Although these pictures are in black and white only, one of IR cameras downfalls unlike they would be with the incandescent flash camera.

The IR camera is much better for leaving out in public hunting areas because of the infrared technology and the lack of attention getting aspect, as well as the extended battery life from using the LED lights.

Incandescent v. Infrared Pros and Cons

Flash Camera Cons

Uses More Energy than IR Shorter Battery Life Attracts Attention Spooks Animals Away Keeps Some Animals from Coming Back Slower Trigger Speeds

IR Camera Cons

Night Photos are Black and White Night time Image Resolution is Lower than Incandescent Some Pictures are Blurry IR cameras can be a lot more Expensive than Flash
Flash Camera Pros

Color Photos Day or Night Image Resolution and Quality much better than IR Cheaper than IR (some models)

IR Camera Pros

Does Not Attract Attention Like Flash Cameras Longer Battery Life Uses Less Energy than Flash Can Take Black and White or Color Photos (daytime only) Faster Recovery and Trigger Speeds Does Not Spook Animals Does Not Keep Animals from Coming Back

Beginning Photography Tips: How To Consistently Get The Best Possible Shot!

Are you new to the art of photography? Following a few beginning photography tips will help you improve your skills so you can take beautiful, professional looking pictures.

With the development of digital cameras, photography has become more affordable, and it has never been easier for those interested in this art to purchase quality equipment and learn how to take great photos. Your camera is a tool, and the more skilled you are at using it, the more effective it will be.

With today's technology, you can turn those special moments in your life into amazing masterpieces by using a few simple tips that will teach you how to take better pictures and create the photos you have always envisioned.

1. Develop a Photographer's Eye.

If you don't know where to begin, you can gain inspiration from the work of other photographers. Look at books and pictures to find what impresses you or draws your attention, and use these ideas to help spark your own creativity and develop your own unique style. Use your imagination to practice and experiment with lighting, angles, colors, or distances, and keep trying new things until you are happy with the results.

Inspiration is everywhere, especially in the unexpected or unusual places, and when you begin to see the world through a creative photographer's eye, you will notice things that you have never noticed before. Simple things can make intriguing pictures when combined with the unique and innovative style of the person behind the camera. Every time you take a picture, stop and think about what you can do to make it better, or what ideas can be incorporated to change an ordinary picture into an extraordinary work of art.

2. Know your Camera.

When you buy a new camera, the first instinct will likely be to set the instruction manual aside and begin snapping pictures immediately. However, knowing how your equipment works will help you get the most from the features so you can take more impressive photos. Learn how to use your camera, what settings it offers, the function of each button, and then experiment to see how those features affect the quality of your photos in different situations and environments. The ability to use your tool of the trade with efficiency and skill will definitely translate into beautiful and stunning photographs.

3. Use a Tripod.

How you hold the camera will effect your pictures, and to capture the best quality photos it is best to hold the camera as still as possible. Using a tripod will eliminate camera shake and guarantee that the photo will be straight, especially if you use one with a built in level. Most photographers will agree that tripods help with sharpness and clarity, are great for taking pictures with faster or longer shutter speed, and also allow you to use your camera's timer so you can include yourself in your shots.

4. Consider Location.

An integral part of developing a creative eye is learning how to see the world as a photo op. Recognize locations that would be great for photo shoots and make note of interesting backdrops, architecture, or scenic views that you would like to photograph. Having a knowledge of sites in your area is beneficial, and you may even want to capture pictures of these locations so you can show clients a variety of options when they hire you to take portraits or photograph special occasions. And of course, since the best pictures often come from the unexpected, keep your camera with you at all times so that you can take advantage of a great photo op when you see one.

5. Be aware of Lighting.

Photography is all about lighting, and how you choose or use it can make the difference between a good photo and a spectacular photo. Knowing the different types of lighting, understanding how they work, and being able to use them to create the best pictures possible is a skill that you will develop by practicing and experimenting with the various options. Of course, location is a factor. Whether you are indoors or outdoors, or working with natural light, artificial light, or flash will have an effect on your finished product.

If your photos will be taken outside, early morning or late afternoon is best, and overcast cloudy skies provide optimal lighting. Even studio lighting is usually based on natural lighting so it is important that you gain an understanding of how shadows and lighting conditions will impact your photos.

Remember, the best way to improve your photography skills is through practice and experimentation. Use your imagination, envision the finished result, and keep working until you achieve the quality you desire.

With a digital camera, practicing creative ideas costs you nothing, so you can try new things and discover your own unique artistic style. These beginning photography tips provide you with a great starting point so you will be able to embark on your exciting photographic adventure.

Couple Photography - 7 Tips and Ideas

Now-a-days just about everyone has a camera of some sort. Here are some tips that will help you take great photos of couples.

Tip #1

Photographing couples when they are sitting around chatting is a good way to get the natural side of anyone. Using your zoom from across a room with a fast aperture setting (sport setting) will help you fill the frame and separate them from their surroundings.

Tip #2

Kneeling down or standing on something higher than the couple and not putting them right in the middle of the frame is another idea. We like to call this the rule of thirds.

Tip #3

Costumes are always a good way to photograph couples who are looking for that not so normal photo session, Halloween Monsters, Easter Bunny's and Mr. & Mrs. Santa are all good ways to brighten any wall.

Tip #4

Outdoor photos with couples holding hands around a tree or sitting on a boulder facing each other are other great ideas for couple photography.

Tip #5

Using Black and White film or setting your camera to take Black and White photos is another good tip. This allows you to be able to capture couples with a timeless look to them.

Tip #6

Lighting is particularly important since you don't want the couple to cast shadows on each other (outside settings are usually the best for this.) Trying a morning or afternoon shot is usually a good way to get your desired lighting.

Tip #7

If you need to use a flash, try to stand at least 2 or 3 feet away from the subjects so the flash isn't too bright. Another tip is to put a tissue over the flash to soften the light.
